HOSPITALISTS

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/27/us/27hosp.html  good unbiased article from the NY TIMES…we all were “hospitalists” during residency..when the movement started,  i was very supportive because of my belief that an office-based MD can not care properly for in-patients.. the movement came under fire because managed care groups used capitated hospitalists as giant GATEKEEPERS..i know..i experienced their reluctance to hospitalize..but with the acceptance of the hospitalist concept by large groups (MAYO CLINIC, KAISER), it is the best model for quality care and reduced costs
